Travel on the brain

Working at a sustainable building consultation firm in Portland.

Great.

Too much paperwork.

Exploration is still afoot.

Saving money for Sweden.

Interior architecture + Sweden = here I come. International calling is happening once again.

Need I say more?

PS: Witnessed Occupy Portland. Would have liked to been part of the protest.

The Professional Student

As of Thursday night, I decided that if I cannot find a job in a year, I will go back to school for a Masters in Architecture.

Lately

Rollo May in The Courage to Create said that being physically naked is much easier that being emotionally naked. I'm now a nude figure drawing model for the art department at school. It feels surprisingly natural and comfortable. The creation of art is close to that of the gods. To be a part of that is incredible and I especially enjoy seeing the student's work. It makes me wish I would've had an additional major/minor in fine arts, although I am getting some great tips listening to the professor.

I ran into my old French professor a few weeks ago and learned that because of me, he discovered Interior Design as a major, told his wife and she is now in the master's program at OSU. They talk about me from time to time, saying how I completely changed their lives and his wife's for the better. It's incredibly humbling to know that I had such an impact on someone's life without evening knowing it.

After 7 years, the old PowerBook G4 was retired, with it's missing keys and broken USB ports. I now have a shiny & new MacBook Pro and am learning InDesign and Illustrator via Lynda.com to design my portfolio. Get ready world!

Sun Moo DO

After taking a martial arts class today, Sun Moo Do, I have a few additions to my life goals list:

-Become accomplished in some form of martial arts
-Perform a Disco/Hustle routine in a dance competition
-Appear on Cash Cab
-Perform a lecture on TED

Another new and exciting direction to take in my field of architecture/interior design is giving design advice and vernacular rebuilding assistance in impoverished nations or nations after they've been affected by natural disasters. See: Open Architecture Network or Architecture for Humanity. This is a must-do.

Moving on up

Big things are happening:
-Graduating college tomorrow(!).
-Applied for the LEED exam with hopes to take in within the next couple of months.
-My yoga teach/guru told me that I "understand my inner essence" and "it shows".
-Beginning that job search....

LEED GA

For anyone thinking of taking the LEED Green Associate exam, here is a great article with information on study guides, tips, etc. They laid out a 4 week study time line, meaning I will have a title after my name by the end of February once I begin exam prep in the new year. YES.

Tenative 2011 Plan

My original plan after graduation in three months was to move to Portland and find a job/internship in the interior design field. But after considering an international internship/volunteer program for over a year now, I decided I am DOING IT. Now what and where is the next decision. Sustainable building? Marine research? Seychelles? Thailand? Bali?

2011/2012
March: Take LEED GA exam, pass.
March: Graduate(!)
March - Whenever: Volunteer internationally.
End of 2011/Beginning of 2012: Portland, OR - DESIGN JOB.

Future hypothesis

I had a dream last night that my interior design class went on a field trip to Paris, where we toured an architecture firm and met with the principal architect, a Frenchman of course. I pitched him my ideas and we talked for hours, speaking fluently in French by the end. My class sneered at my usual success and ended up leaving me at the firm. Later that afternoon I left the firm with a job, giving everyone bises.

Le sigh.

Mostaccio

After years of pretending to speak words in Italian, I have decided tonight that I am going to start learning Italian--life goal addition #1,845.

Home

Attempted terror bombing in my state, from my little town, probably attended OSU. When are people going to realize it's blondes not bombs (...brunettes not fighter jets?)

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

I just received and email about "tranquilizing bathtubs" and thought, " I don't want to sit in something that will shoot darts at me. Crazy people."

Love life update: I ended things with my on and off again lover of 2 years.

Awesomeness update: Obvious. Haters gon hate.

EDIT // Life goal addition: Beat the record for the most hoops twirled simultaneously (record is at 132 twirls).

Fruits of labor

It has been months! I recently completed my interior design/architecture internship in Seattle and received an unexpected payment for some commercial work I drafted (the first paycheck of my career). While in Washington, I lived with six other students. We were like a family. I'm 23 now and contracted a terrible case of disco fever. A bottle of ketchup exploded on me during my birthday lunch. Haha. I was able to do some exploring of nearby forests, beaches and hikes. What a beautiful summer it has been!

Now begins the job hunt and LEED exam prep! If you know a good graphic design, please contact me. I am working on my branding and portfolio and need some professional help.

Inspired by our blackberry bushes out back, I concocted a new drink:
A. Bomb's Juice
1-2 shots vodka
~10 mushed blackberries
Adequate amount of Sprite/club soda/ginger ale
Dash of lemonade

Breaking news

I was studying French while eating a huge chunk of chocolate, set it down on a piece of paper for a quick respite, then picked it back up again only to find that it left a mark in the shape of France, or l'Hexagone.

EDIT // Went to the French bakery as an after exam treat for an éclair au chocolat. I orgasmed the whole time it was in my mouth. :)

I never thought I'd have baby fever

These past few weeks have been quite eventful: I've danced in a flash mob, participated in an undie run through campus and lead an architectural bike tour wearing hot pink spandex, a shell bra and fake lei.

Last night I had a dream that I gave birth to twin girls fathered by Ryan Gosling. They never cried so I always forgot that I had them and where they were. Haha. They were the cutest babies ever, all swaddled up in pink blankies. And so it begins...

The Frenchies

We met a group of French guys at the bar this weekend and craziness ensued thereafter, MTV spring break style.
